Gus Hansen was born on February 13, 1974 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and being the most famous poker player from Denmark he is known as “The Great Dane.” Gus enjoys any activity where he can be competitive. In addition to poker, Gus likes playing soccer, squash, and golf, and he used to be a world class backgammon player and a youth tennis champion.
In 2007, Gus Hansen has had a ton of success, winning the Aussie Millions Main Event to win one and a half Australian dollars. Gus also had a very strong run in the World Series of Poker Main Event, finishing in 61st place and winning $154,194.
Gus Hansen began playing poker in 1993, when he was attending the University of California Santa Cruz. Gus has had most of his success at the World Poker Tour and is the only player to win four WPT titles. Gus won the first ever WPT event in 2003 at the $10000 No Limit Holdem tournament at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Later that year he won the $10000 No Limit Holdem Championship at the World Poker Tour’s LA Poker Classic. In the second season of the WPT Gus won the invitation-only Bad Boys of Poker event and he won his fourth title at the Caribbean Adventure event in 2004. Gus is still working on winning his fifth title. He has made it to four final tables since his last title, but has been unable to pull out a victory.
In other notable tournaments, Gus Hansen has won The London All-Star Challenge, which was the inaugural event in the European Poker Masters. Gus also won the first Poker Superstars Invitational.
